How to look good and feel comfortable on the green

Golf is a sport so well established that it even has little spin-offs; crazy golf, mini golf, pub golf … – it has its own clothes, clubhouses, large courses and more lingo than you can remember in one sitting.

It is, predominantly though, played outdoors and this makes it not only an enjoyable and dynamic sport but also a damp one, especially in the UK. When it comes to women’s golf clothes on the course, there’s a pretty wide range of shorts, skirts and trousers but where’s the warmth?

 Microfleece

Microfleece is a very soft synthetic material that is thin and flexible whilst still providing plenty of insulation and warmth. This means you can enjoy a full range of movement while you play and have an added layer of cosiness. There’s always a certain amount of standing around on a golf course, and even on a warm day with a light breeze you can start getting chilled. So having a lightweight fleece will take the weather off your mind and let you concentrate on your swing.

As a hydrophobic material it dries quickly and its breathability means it’s ideal for use in sports and will help keep your muscles warm, even during periods of inactivity. Because it’s synthetic, it’s easy to wash and quick drying, unlike real wool which requires lengthy hand washing.

Thermals

Thermals are an old favourite for the outdoor enthusiast, and a thermal base layer will get you a long way in cold weather. Why should you hang up your clubs for six months just because there’s a chill in the air? A thermal base layer is worn under all other clothes and will keep warm air close to your skin.

Choose a base layer that will keep your midriff covered too, as this is prime place to get cold. Base layers are a great way to stay warm in wintery weather and will aid your playing; the colder you are, the tenser you’ll be and the harder it will be to concentrate. With a high quality thermal top, you won’t even notice you’re wearing it and it’ll keep you blissfully toasty.

Warm weather ladies’ golf wear

But what about the other end of the spectrum? Wrapping up and wearing layers in the winter is easy, but what about the warmer months? Choosing a fabric that can keep you cool when it’s hot is just as important as finding a fleece that will keep you warm when it’s cold. There is a wide range of ladies’ golf wear available that has hot weather properties such as excellent UV protection (the sun can still damage you through clothes!) and crucial ventilation.

Being too hot on the course can be distracting, frustrating and can ruin your game so make sure you’re prepared. Wicking material is important in a top for hot weather and a thermal top because it wicks sweat away from your body, keeping you dry and at the right temperature.

Win that game

So that’s practicality out of the way; once you’ve got the clothes that will keep you calm and collected rather than shivering or flustered, then you can truly focus on your game. When you’re comfortable in your clothes then you’ll always look fantastic and when choosing golf clothes, remember, weather changes and being prepared will improve your day no end, right through to the final tee.

Are skorts a must-have item of ladies golf wear?

Even on the golf course fashion is ever present, particularly for the growing number of women who are enjoying the game. And this year one question has been on many ladies’ lips, and consequently on the minds of ladies golf wear suppliers – shorts or skorts?

What is the secret of the skort’s success? Perhaps it lies in the combination of style and functionality that it provides. First developed by the Leon Levin clothing company in the 1960s as the ‘Q’ skirt, the skort offered women golfers the additional coverage and freedom of movement that came from wearing shorts, but with the look of a skirt.

Skorts can even be linked to the changing role of women in Western society during the 20th century, as they gave them more freedom to engage in outdoor activities that had previously been more commonly associated with the male of the species, such as gardening and sports.

Types of skort

With many professional female golfers sporting a skort on the links, their popularity has continued to soar. For ladies golf clothes retailers the choice is no longer whether or not to stock skorts, but what styles of skort they should offer their customers.

We’ve found that two particular types of skort are popular. The first type resemble a pair of shorts completely enveloped by a skirt, and these are generally favoured by customers who prefer the more traditional look of a skirt with the coverage that shorts provide. The other type also sells well, and instead has a flap of fabric at the front only over the shorts component.

Of course, while skorts are a favoured item of women’s golf clothing, they’re not just for golf, and you may find that sales are further propelled by those who utilise them for other sporting activities and outdoor chores.

Inbee Park doing her bit for female golf

In the past, golf was a largely male preserve, but these days women are taking to the fairways and greens in their droves.

Reflecting this fact, there is now plenty of superb quality women’s golf clothing available. Here at LeSports we offer an impressive selection of garments and accessories, and should have everything you need.

A big hitter

One woman who’s doing her bit to further the sport for women is South Korea’s Inbee Park. According to an article in the Independent, the expert is the Tiger Woods of the women’s game. Recently, she showed her skills at the Ricoh Women’s British Open Championship at Muirfield, Scotland.

She was aiming to become the first player to win four consecutive majors in the same season. She had already taken the top spot in the Kraft Nabisco, LPGA Championship and US Women’s Open.

World number one

Unfortunately for Park, she didn’t succeed, but this didn’t seem to faze her. The 25-year-old remains the world number one and plans to have many successes in the future, the Scotsman reports. Talking after the event, she stated: “I might not have won this week, but I’ve learned a lot and know I’ve still got a lot of room to improve.”

She added: “I’m glad that the tournament is over after going through four rounds under such pressure. I’ve done something amazing this season by winning three in a row and I don’t even know if I can do that again. It might take a long time for that record to be beat. And, unless I win four majors in a row, I’ll always remember this moment. It’s something I’ve never experienced before and, though it’s tough to be the centre of everything and I feel exhausted, it’s been a great experience. I’ve never had this many people rooting for me. That has been the favourite part.”

Meanwhile, commenting on the UK weather, she added: “Mother Nature has to be on your side in the British Open. It didn’t happen for me this year – but I have a lot of more years to go.”

Feeling inspired?

If you’re feeling inspired by the achievements of professionals like Park, and by the rising profile of women’s golf more generally, now might be a great time to stock up on some new golf clothes. After all, when you’re out and about on the course, it’s important that you look and feel the part.

Luckily, getting your hands on the perfect garments and accessories is now easier than ever. By taking a look around our website, you should be able to find everything you want. From ladies’ golf waterproof jackets to ladies’ golf socks we sell it all.

Temperatures are falling

With autumn already upon us, it might be a good idea to stock up on some wintry clothes to protect you from the cold and damp over coming months. By making sure you’ve got suitable outfits on when you step onto the course, you should be able to enjoy golf in all seasons.

Top golfing tips

Golf isn’t something you can pick up in a summer, or even in a number of summers. It’s the sort of sport that can take a lifetime to perfect.

To help ensure you’re able to do yourself justice out there on the fairways and greens, it’s important that you have the right women’s golf clothes. Here at LeSports we offer an impressive selection of products and should have everything you need to help ensure you look and feel great on the course.

Also, you might benefit from taking on board some expert hints and tips. There is plenty of advice out there on the web for you to take advantage of.

Swing through the ball

For example, writing on Golf Digest, golf teacher Karen Palacios-Jansen highlighted the importance of swinging through and not to the ball. About this, she said: “Most slow-swinging amateurs slap at the ball or try to scoop it up into the air, which causes the club head to slow down through impact. There’s no gradual build-up of speed, which is a defining trait of good tempo.

“To learn how to accelerate the club through impact to a full, balanced finish, practice swinging with your head cover on your driver. The additional resistance on the club head will force you to drive it through impact into a full finish, and will teach you how to use tempo to generate more speed and power.”

Rotate

Meanwhile, also offering advice, fellow teacher Cheryl Anderson stated that players need to shift their weight. According to the expert, to gain more distance, it is important to rotate the body’s core through the shot so that it finishes on the left side.

On this topic, the specialist remarked: “You want your thighs to finish close together – you should be able to hold a sheet of paper between them – and your lower legs to form a small, inverted V from the knees down. If the V is larger or there’s a gap between your knees, your weight is not on your left side. Most likely, you’re hanging back on your right foot, which causes the club to bottom out early and hit the ball fat or thin. Reduce the size of the V, and you’ll improve your balance and gain distance.”

Sweep it

Ms Anderson also recommended sweeping the ball off the tee rather than hitting down on it. This, she said, helps players to achieve the maximum distance from their tee shots.

Take a look

If you’re feeling inspired by these tips and want to get out on the golf course, now could be the perfect time to stock up on some new clothes.

By taking a look around our website, you can peruse an impressive selection of items, including ladies’ golf trousers, ladies’ golf tops and much more. Buying from us is quick and simple, and we provide impressive value for money too.

Armed with all the knowledge you need, and the perfect golfing gear, you should enjoy your experiences on the course.

The right golf clothing can help you concentrate

Being able to concentrate is a must on the golf course. Even tiny distractions can affect your game and turn what would have been superb shots into disastrous mistakes. This is why the ladies’ golf clothes you choose are so important.

You should tailor your outfits to suit the precise conditions of the time of year and the day itself. This can help you to improve your game and enable you to get more enjoyment from the sport.

A low sun

One big problem for golfers as autumn begins to set in is the low sun. This is at its worst in mid-December, but well before and after this point, the position of the sun can have a big impact on players.

If you’re determined not to be phased by this glowing ball out there in space, it may be time to invest in some suitable headwear. Here at LeSports we sell a selection of ladies’ golf visors, including Fila Retro Sports Golf Visor Cap. This can help to keep the sun out of your eyes and it has the added advantage of keeping your head and ears warm, which is important as colder conditions set in.

You might also want to take your sunglasses with you to help protect your eyes.

Numb hands can ruin your fun

Golf is a game of patience and there is plenty of standing around involved. During the summer, you can simply bask in the warm solar rays. However, when it’s colder, you might struggle to keep your hands warm.

Cold mitts are a big no no on the golf course. It’s impossible to play controlled shots when you can’t feel your clubs properly. Also, cold hands can be painful.

This is where golf gloves come into their own and the Daily Sports Ladies Golf Fleece Handwarmer Mittens are well worth a look. These items have a microfibre quilted outer layer and a chequerboard finish palm for added grip.

Protect your feet

Your feet have to work hard when you’re out and about on the golf course, so it’s only fair that you treat them well. There are few things more distracting when you’re trying to take the perfect shot than having cold, wet feet.

We sell an impressive range of ladies’ golf shoes and should have the perfect versions for you. For example, perhaps our Adidas Ladies GolfLite 3 Z Waterproof Golf Shoes in black would be ideal. They are 100 per cent waterproof, meaning you won’t have to worry on rainy or snowy days.

It’s also a good idea to wear a pair of thick socks under your shoes to help keep your feet nice and toasty.

Easy as that

The good news is, ordering items from our website is quick and simple. All you need are a spare few moments and an internet connection. By making sure you’re well equipped for a range of conditions on the golf course, you should be able to enjoy virtually year-round action on the fairways and greens.

Getting ready for winter on the golf course

For once, we’ve been treated to a great summer here in the UK and you might have loved stepping out onto the fairways in the blistering sunshine. However, all good things must come to an end and autumn is already upon us.

It may be a couple of months before the cold weather really sets in, but now’s the time to stock up on ladies’ golf wear for winter.

All seasons

OK, so if your golf course is covered under a foot of snow, or there’s horizontal icy rain, you might have to put your clubs down and find something else to do. However, with the right clothes, you should be able to get stuck into the game virtually year-round.

The important thing is to head onto the course fully prepared. You won’t be able to hit your best shots if you’re not feeling comfortable and, more importantly, you won’t enjoy yourself.

Cold, wet feet are a big no no

One of the most distracting things when you’re out there on the course trying your best is to have cold, wet feet. This is why it’s so important to have suitable women’s golf shoes. Here at LeSports we offer an impressive selection of footwear and should have exactly what you’re after.

For example, the Adidas Ladies GolfLite 3 Z Waterproof Golf Shoes can be ideal for damp, cold conditions. They are 100 per cent waterproof and they feature a soft EVA footbed for comfort and cushioning. In addition, they boast a low profile outsole with six cleats for improved stability.

No matter which shoes you opt for, make sure you wear thick socks under them on cold days. There’s plenty of standing around on the golf course and your feet can quickly get chilly.

Prepare for when the heavens open

At any time of year, the heavens can open here in Britain, but it’s especially important that you have effective waterproofs during the winter because if you get soaked, you’ll be freezing.

Perhaps the Adidas Ladies Provisional Rain Golf Jacket in passion colour will tick all of your boxes. This is critically seam-sealed and is waterproof to 3,000mm. It is also lightweight, meaning you can remove it and pack it away when you don’t need it.

Women’s waterproof trousers are also a must for damp days and the Adidas Climaproof Ladies Waterproof Golf Trousers in black are well worth a look. They provide protection from wind, rain and snow and come with handy front and back zipped pockets.

Layer up

Keeping your body temperature up between shots is often easier said than done, but by making sure you layer up, you can help ensure you stay toasty while you’re out and about on the course. With this in mind, you might want to invest in a Catmandoo Ladies Thermo Micro Fleece in black. This is soft, lightweight and very warm, while its stretch fabric allows for freedom of movement.

Use your head

Your head is where you will lose much of your body heat, so a hat is a must on those really cold days. We sell a selection of these items, including the Fila Vintage Winter Beanie Hat.

Choosing a Ladies’ Golf Glove

One of the most important golf accessories you can buy is a glove. Although not a requirement, most golfers will choose to wear a glove because it gives them better control of their clubs without needing to grip too hard. The material that the glove is made from will give much more grip against the club than the human hand, particularly when the latter is sweating or wet. A ladies’ golf glove can also give you more comfort and protection for your hands because it will reduce the amount of friction between your hands and the golf club’s rubber grip. Once you’ve found the right glove, you will soon notice the difference it gives your game.

You should take some time to look at different ladies’ golf gloves to make sure you find the right one for you. There are different sizes and styles available, so it is important to do some research and find your perfect glove. Here are some things to look out for.

Get the Right Hand

Your first consideration when looking at golf gloves should be to make sure that you choose a glove for the correct hand. Most golfers will only wear one glove and your gloved hand should be the one that sits at the top of the club, as this is your weak hand. This means that if you are a right-handed golfer, you should buy a left-handed glove, and vice versa.

Get the Right Fit

If a glove doesn’t fit correctly, it will weaken your grip and maybe even cause discomfort. Look specifically for ladies’ golf gloves and you will see that there is a range of sizes available. You need to make sure that the glove you choose is neither too tight nor too loose. Most gloves will have a Velcro strap on the back of the hand, and you should make sure that the strap fits squarely without being overstretched or having too much overlapping. Also consider the fingers to ensure that they fit correctly without being too baggy or too tight.

Get the Right Features

As with most products, there are different kinds of gloves on the market, with many different brands and features to choose from. They can be made from different materials, with leather being the most comfortable and durable, but also the most expensive. Synthetic gloves can be good, however, when it is hot or raining, so you may prefer to have both types to hand so that you’ve something suitable for every weather. No matter what the weather, you will find that your hand sweats a lot during the course of a game. Look for gloves that have ventilation to allow your hand to breathe, and this will make it more comfortable too.

Get the Right Retailer

Here at LeSports, we cater specifically for women with all kinds of ladies’ golf wear. We stock all the best brands, combined with excellent customer service, and we acquire new styles and brands all the time.

Why Wear Golf Shoes

There are many things that you need to improve your golf game – a good set of clubs, a quality glove, and a great pair of ladies’ golf shoes are among the most important. It is not as easy as just picking up your most comfortable pair of shoes to wear either – golf courses require that players wear shoes that won’t cause any damage to the greens or turf. While you can wear most trainers or other sports shoes, specific golf shoes could give you some benefits to your game. Read on to find out how.

Improve Your Swing

Women’s golf shoes have spikes or cleats on the bottom which help you to keep your feet steady while you swing. This can be a benefit at any time but even more so when you are playing during wet conditions. Cleats stop your feet from slipping during your swing and different shoes will come with different numbers. Other shoes will have gripped soles rather than cleats but we recommend having some kind of grip rather than your regular trainers.

Protect from the Elements

If you’re a golfer in this country then you’ll know just how unpredictable our weather is. You shouldn’t let that put you off your game, however – if you have a good pair of waterproof golf shoes, your feet will be protected during the bad weather. Also make sure that you look for shoes with good ventilation and quality fabrics that will allow your feet to breathe on those rare occasions when the weather is hot.

Help to Navigate the Golf Course

The right shoes will make navigating the hilly golf course much easier, especially across its different surfaces. Normal trainers would make it much more difficult to go down a grassy slope and then straight into a sand hazard and you may even end up falling. The cleats or grip soles on your golf shoes will makes this process much easier, however, and provide you with the necessary traction for all terrains.

Add Some Style

Just because you’re playing a sport doesn’t mean you have to let go of your fashion sense! Our women’s golf clothes and shoes are specifically designed for ladies by some of the best brands out there and are available in a wide range of colours and styles so there is no need to sacrifice your style while showcashing your swing. You can easily match your shoes to the rest of your outfit, and choosing a neutral colour such as black, white or stone means that you won’t find this too difficult.

When looking at our selection of shoes you’ll also see that some resemble more athletic shoes, while others are more akin to dress shoes. Of course, the type of shoes that you choose will depend entirely on personal preference. We also have the Hi-Tec Ladies’ Diamond Sneaker golf shoes in navy and pink or in white which offer something a little different to the traditional styles, while still providing grip and comfort.

Bad Weather Golf Clothing for Women

We’re no stranger to rain in this country and real golf lovers will go out and enjoy a game no matter what the weather. Nonetheless, it is important to equip yourself with appropriate women’s golf clothing for those days when the weather isn’t so great, and by having the right clothes you’ll find that you can still enjoy the game whatever the weather’s doing. Here are some of the items you’ll need.

Waterproof Shoes

When playing a round of golf, you spend a lot of time walking and standing around. If the ground is wet, your feet will get wet, which will make you feel extremely uncomfortable and could even bring on a cold – unless you’re wearing a quality pair of waterproof golf shoes that is. Although they cost a little more than the non-waterproof version, our waterproof range of ladies’ Adidas golf shoes will be an investment well worth the money. They are available in several different styles and colours, including the super stylish white with sky blue stripes Signature Natalie shoes, as worn by LPGA Tour Professional Natalie Gulbis.

Waterproof Jackets

We have ladies’ golf jackets for all weather types, including windproof, waterproof and fleece and bodywarmer jackets. It is really important to keep your upper body warm and dry while playing golf, and so a waterproof jacket is a really sound investment. Look for a jacket that provides some insulation as well as shelter from the rain, although bear in mind that we get rain in warm weather too, so also look for one that wicks away moisture to keep you cool on those warm days too. Ideally, your jacket should be light and thin enough for you to be able to fold it up and keep it in your golf bag so that you’ll always have it with you for when the weather takes you by surprise!

Wind and Waterproof Trousers

Of course, you need to protect your lower half too when the bad weather hits. Look for trousers that are both waterproof and windproof, as well as providing breathability. Choose trousers which are right for your leg length so that they aren’t too long and soak up water from the ground, but also so that they aren’t too short and expose your ankles. Our Green Lamb Ladies’ Seam Sealed black waterproof golf trousers are available in different leg lengths.

Gloves and a Hat

It’s not just rain and wind you have to fear in this country! We experience cold temperatures during all seasons and an exposed golf course is one of the worst places for feeling them. However, if you wrap up with suitable clothing and add in a warm pair of gloves and a hat, you won’t have anything to worry about. Gloves are especially important because a weak grip can really affect your game, and wet weather makes your grip even worse. You may also want a hat during hot weather, to shield your vision and protect you from burning and overheating.

How Your Golf Clothing Affects Your Game

The clothes you choose won’t instantly propel you into professional level status or slash your handicap in half, but it must be said that wearing the right ladies’ golf clothes can help to improve your game. Here are some of the ways that your clothes can change the way you play.

Adapt to the Climate

You will be able to find golf clothes to suit every climate, so it is important that you cater for all seasons when shopping for golf clothes. Many clubs and greens will only allow their users to wear specific golf clothes, or will have rules or guidelines concerning what you are allowed to wear, so you can’t just throw on any old thing if the weather isn’t as you expect. Having the right clothes, such as a ladies’ waterproof golf jacket or a sun visor, will make your game much more comfortable and will give you the confidence to improve your game.

Allow for Movement

Many people think of golf as a slow sport. While it doesn’t have the fast-paced action of football or athletics, this doesn’t mean that there is no movement required. Your clothes should allow you to move freely so that you can properly execute your swing. Ladies’ golf skorts are perfect for this because your legs have free movement and there is stretch in the material which aids with this. Also look for tops, trousers and jackets which are lightweight and stretchy, and avoid going for clothes which are too big, as they could end up rubbing you or getting in the way.

Provide a Good Grip

Your golf shoes will be one of the most crucial items in your wardrobe when it comes to your game. Golf shoes typically have cleats or spikes (or a good grip sole) which allow you to firmly plant your feet and remain stable throughout your swing. Good shoes also help to keep you comfortable while walking around on the different terrains of the course, preventing you from slipping on slopes. Dress-style shoes will provide you with more support and structure, while athletic styles will give optimum comfort.

Another essential item when it comes to grip is the golf glove. Golfers typically wear just one glove on their lead hand (the hand at the top when you swing) and this helps to maintain a firm grip on the club, particularly in wet conditions or when your hand is sweating. Leather gloves will provide the best grip, while synthetic gloves are more breathable and better for hot weather conditions.

Allow Clear Vision

On hot sunny days, the golf course is extremely exposed and it can be hard to see against the glare of the sun. Get yourself a summer hat or sun visor to give yourself a clear view of the course. A hat will also help to keep you cool by keeping the sun off your head while you’re playing or waiting, which again will make you feel more comfortable and in turn improve your game.
